How to improve Your Semi Truck Fuel Efficiency

Detailed below are a few method truck drivers can adopt to improve their fuel efficiency:

1. Perform regular truck maintenance:

To ensure that every component and system on the truck can function normally, regular maintenance is an essential action, and this will improve fuel efficiency also. Regular maintenance includes the tires are properly inflated, using the recommended grade of engine oil, and replacing the air filter as needed.

2. Reduce weight:

Every extra pound of weight in a truck reduces fuel efficiency. Consider removing unnecessary items from your truck and consolidating loads to save weight.

3. Use Cruise Control:

Using cruise control when driving on a highway will help you keep a constant speed and increase fuel efficiency.

4. Cut Down on Idling Time:

Your engine utilizes fuel while it is idling but is not moving. Avoid idle time, especially when waiting to pick up a load or parked at a rest area.

5. Use aerodynamic devices:

To help reduce wind resistance and increase fuel efficiency, aerodynamic accessories like trailer skirts and side skirts can be used.

6. Properly inflate tires:

Properly inflated tires can improve fuel efficiency by reducing the energy required to move the vehicle. Therefore, regularly checking tire pressures and keeping them inflated to recommended levels can increase fuel efficiency.

7. Use the recommended fuel grade:

Fuel efficiency can be improved by using the recommended grade of truck fuel. Consult your owner’s manual to find the recommended fuel grade for your vehicle.
